The present thesis deals with two apparently separate subjects. One (Part I) is the non-equilibrium steadystate (NESS) associated to the so-called adiabatic piston, and the other (Part II) is the 3D collective motionof Dictyostelium Discoideum. However, we have a common philosophy behind them: We would like to shedmore light on the momentum and its flux. Our efforts are (a) to be conscious about the momentum flux and theway it is related to the other conserved quantities and (b) to consider the change of the scale of description. The whole thesis work constitutes along these two axes.
