Evaluating Caching Mechanisms In Future Internet Architectures Jing, Yuxin This thesis seeks to test and evaluate the effects of in-network storage in novel proposed Internet architectures in terms of their performance. In a world where more and more people are mobile and connected to the Internet, we look at how the added variable of user mobility can affect how these architectures perform under different loads. Evaluating the effects of in-network storage and caching in these novel architectures will provide another facet to understanding how viable of an alternative they would be to the current TCP/IP paradigm of today's Internet. In Named Data Networking, where the storage is used to directly cache content, we see its use of storage impact the locality of where things are, while in MobilityFirst, where storage is used to cache chunks to provide robust delivery, we look at how its different layers work together in a mobility event. Evaluating Caching Mechanisms In Future Internet Architectures
Modeling Network User Behavior: Various Approaches
Modeling Network User Behavior: Various Approaches Xu, Shidan This project involves learning to predict users' mobility within the network topology. Topological mobility, as opposed to physical mobility, can be substantial as a user switches from LTE to wifi network, while moving minimally physically. Our dataset consists of email IMAP logs as they document associated client IP addresses, as well as the clients' identifiers. Prediction for online mobility is of particular interest to the networks community. If we can predict online mobility with high probability, then new network architecture can be designed to optimize the caching system by minimizing resending packets. We used various approaches and techniques to model the user's behavior, including probabilistic programming, regression, neural nets, and clustering algorithms. We compare and contrast how models differ in their prediction accuracy, speed of convergence, and algorithmic complexity. MEng thesis

ECCO Version 4: Contents And Usage
ECCO Version 4: Contents And Usage Forget, Gael This presentation is an overview of ECCO version 4 that was given at the 2016 ECCO meeting (MIT; May 16-18, 2016). It reviews the ECCO v4 components and online locations (ECCO v4 release 2 directories, analysis software, model setup, global grids, and documentations). It then illustrates budget analyses, model-data comparisons, and model sensitivity experiments (forward and adjoint) that are readily enabled by ECCO v4 r2 (available online).

Evaluation of the Usability and Learnability of Vehicle Sketch Pad in Academia
Evaluation of the Usability and Learnability of Vehicle Sketch Pad in Academia MacLeod, Stephanie F.; Feigh, Karen This paper describes an evaluation of the usability and learnability of Vehicle Sketch Pad (VSP) within the academic aerospace engineering field. In addition, this paper provides suggestions on how Vehicle Sketch Pad should develop to better provide a desirable graphical user interface (GUI). Aerospace Engineering graduate students were asked to perform specific tasks within Vehicle Sketch Pad, and their performance, efficiency, and workload while completing these tasks were measured. The same students were asked to perform similar tasks within a more traditional computer aided design (CAD) tool, AutoDesk Inventor. At this time, how the user interfaced with the Inventor GUI and what features within the interface they liked and did not like were measured. Analysis of the results of this experiment showed that all three experience-based noise variables, undergraduate major, prior courses taken, and prior VSP experience, do impact the user’s performance, efficiency, and workload while completing a task in VSP. For example, those with a more in-depth Aerospace-related background perceived less workload than those with alternative backgrounds. Additionally, the VSP GUI proved to have a statistically significant impact on the user’s performance, efficiency, and workload. For example, those who experienced confusion due to the workspace layout expressed they felt utilizing VSP was a very mentally demanding task. As a result this analysis, a roadmap for VSP development opportunities was created. This roadmap included users’ opinions and the researcher’s observances of gaps within the VSP GUI in addition to suggestions based on the Inventor GUI.
